Effexor XR and Effexor SR (venlafaxine hydrochloride) are  currently antidepressants marketed by the company Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. The generic of the medicine went onto the open market in 2006.

Effexor is  approved to treat depression, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. They have also been used off-label to treat migraines, diabetic neuropathy, and hot flashes.
